FTC Irrigation is certified by the AWWA (American Water Works Association) and OWWA (Ontario Water Works Association) in backflow prevention assembly installations and testings.

Backflow Prevention Assembly

What is backflow prevention?

A backflow prevention assembly is used to protect water supplies from contamination or pollution. In water supply systems, water is normally maintained at a significant pressure to enable water to flow from the tap, shower, etc.

When pressure fails or is reduced, as may happen if a water main bursts, pipes freeze or there is unexpectedly high demand on the water system (example: firefighting requirements), the pressure in the pipe may be reduced and may allow contaminated water from the ground, from storage or from other sources to be drawn into the system.

Backflow Prevention in Your Irrigation System

A backflow prevention assembly stops toxic residue from powders or sprays or bacteria from animal waste from being siphoned into your drinking water system from the sprinkler head. This may occur any time there is a sudden loss of supply pressure.

Backflow prevention devices protect the drinking water supply from contamination from backflow of water from contaminated sources. Testing of backflow prevention devices must be done by an accredited professional, per the Water Supply By-Laws.
